Padres Sign Maddux

The San Diego Padres have signed future Hall of Fame right-hander Greg Maddux to a 1-year deal worth $10 million, with a player option for 2008 worth $6-10 million depending on his performance in 2007. Maddux is 41 years old, but in the current market, and given that the Padres don’t have to forfeit draft picks to sign him, this is a nice pickup for San Diego. A bit pricey, but nowhere near as bad as, say, the Vicente Padilla deal.

I go into obsessive detail about the Maddux signing over at Ducksnorts if you’re interested. Obsessive detail. Don’t say I didn’t warn you…
