Rangers Sign Catalanotto

The Texas Rangers have signed Frank Catalanotto, previously with the Blue Jays, to a 3-year, $13 million deal. Catalanotto, who called Texas home from 2000 to 2002, is a left-handed batter who specializes in hitting line drives all over the place, sporting a career .297/.362/.454 line in nearly 3500 plate appearances.

Catalanotto used to be a second baseman but now is primarily a left fielder. Although he isn’t a difference maker, he should be a useful — if somewhat expensive — cog in the Rangers’ machine.
