Rangers Sign Wright

The Texas Rangers have signed veteran right-hander Jamey Wright to a minor-league deal. The Oklahoma native is expected to compete for a spot in the back of the rotation.
In nearly 1500 innings at the big-league level, the 32-year-old Wright has posted a 5.14 ERA. Granted, he’s spent much of his 11-year career pitching in some terrible ballparks, but he’s never had an ERA lower than 4.10 over a full season — and that was in 2000, while pitching for Milwaukee. Ameriquest Field promises to be much less forgiving.
Wright’s list of similar pitchers through age 31 is sobering, to say the least. Jimmy Haynes? Glendon Rusch? Jason Bere? Jason Johnson? Omar Olivares? Fine people, I’m sure, but not the kind of pitchers you want anywhere near your team’s rotation.
