Red Sox David Ortiz to the DL

June 2, 2008 by Stephen Kersey

David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox is headed to the DL with an injured wrist. Ortiz, who has a partially torn tendon in his wrist, is out for an indefinite amount of time. The good news is that the Red Sox don’t believe he’ll need surgery and believe he’ll be back before too long.

While Ortiz is out, expect Manny Ramirez to go to DH. While Boston’s outfield defense will improve with Ramirez moving to DH, Ortiz was hitting the ball very well and will be missed in the middle of the lineup.

The Red Sox stand at 35-25 and are set to begin a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays are 35-22 and sit in first place in the AL East. If the Red Sox can sweep the series, they’ll move into first place. However, that will be difficult without the services of Ortiz.
