Season Over – Which Teams are Finished?

Early in April, every team in the major leagues is feeling good about their chances. Big market, small market – it doesn’t matter. Early April brings optimism from every corner of the baseball world.
However, it doesn’t take long to see which teams are in line for a long, long season. Which teams should start looking toward the 2009 baseball season? Here’s my list of teams that already have no shot at postseason glory.
Washington Nationals
This one is really no surprise. The Nationals were expected to be bad and they are following through on that prophecy. The bad part for Nationals fans is that the future doesn’t look especially bright. Washington is desperate for a star to come along and pull them out of their malaise.
San Francisco Giants
While the Giants’ record isn’t that bad, their hitting is that bad. Bengie Molina swings a nice bat but when he’s your cleanup hitter, something is wrong. Year one After Bond is going to be a transitional year for the Giants. Honestly, it may be the first of many transitional years.
Texas Rangers
The Rangers have always had bad pitching. The problem is that now their hitting is also poor. Josh Hamilton has been impressive but he can’t carry the entire offensive load. To top it off, the Rangers aren’t very good in the field, either. Last place in the AL West beckons.
Kansas City Royals
The Royals have a decent record. Their pitchers are solid. They have good, young players. But 2008 will again not be the year of the Royals. However, for the first time in a long while, Kansas City has hope for future seasons.

I think KC has a reasonable shot at something close to .500 this year. like you said, they’ve really got something to look foward to now, they’re on the right track. and it’s amazing how fast Dayton Moore turned this frachise around.
I don’t think the Nats are as horrible as they look, they have some intriguing young talents. and Jim Bowden hasn’t been afraid to spin the wheels at every chance that arises. but the abosalute mess that was the Ex-Expos will take a little longer. but i don’t think their completely fucked… however….
The Rangers are pretty fucked. for all the grief some other clubs (Pirates, KC, Nats etc.. ) may have. is there a more worthless club in the history of the game then the Rangers? they been around for almost 50 years now and made the playoff *3* times. and never past the first round. hell they won *1* playoff game in their entire existence!
The Giant’s season is FAR from over, it’s just starting!…. in a bad way though. let’ see Barry Zito’s quest to go 0-30 (now that he’s in the pen he might pick up more losses!) Matt Cain going something like 2-10 depite a sub 4 ERA, and some record setting suckitude as the team trotts out has beens and never was out every day! hey, can you give the California Penal league a call?
I think you should sub the Royals with the Pirates, it’s said and somewhat ironic up till 1992, their history rival that of any non-Yankee ball club. but Bonds leaving it’s almost as if the modern curse of the Babe hitting them. not that they’ve helped themself out that much though.
