The Philadelphia Phillies were able to strike first in Game 3 of the 2009 WOrld Series. In the bottom of the second inning, Jayson Werth hit a homer, Jimmy Rollins had a bases loaded walk and Shane Victorino had a sacrifice fly.
The New York Yankees could have easily folded but instead they battled back. Alex Rodriguez, who had been struggling during the World Series, hit a two run homer in the fourth to start the rally. Andy Pettitte helped his own cause with an RBI single, then Johnny Damon hit a two RBI double.

The New York Yankees are headed back to the World Series. In Game 6, Andy Pettitte dominated on the mound and Alex Rodriguez had another memorable game as the Yankees beat the Los Angeles Angels by a final count of 5-2.
The Angels actually got on the board first when Bobby Abreu hit an RBI single in the third inning. However, the Yankees got the lead for good in the fourth. Johnny Damon hit a two-run single and then Rodriguez drew a walk with the bases loaded to score Derek Jeter.

Yankees Pound Angels, Take 3-1 Lead

A day after the Los Angeles Angels were able to climb out of an early hole, the New York Yankees put Game 4 of the ALCS away for good. After building a 5-0 lead after five innings, the Yankees went on to win by a final count of 10-1.
The two biggest stars for the Yankees were Alex Rodriguez and C.C. Sabathia. Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBIs and a walk. His big hit came in the form of a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

The New York Yankees gave C.C. Sabathia a truck load of money to convince him to come to the Big Apple. On Friday, Sabathia showed the world why the Yankees wanted him so much as New York beat the Los Angeles Angels by a final count of 4-1.
In eight innings of work, Sabathia gave up four hits, one walk and one earned run while striking out seven. It was Sabathia second postseason win in two starts. Closer Mariano Rivera pitched the ninth inning to pick up the save.

Alex Rodriguez Hits Two Homers in One Inning

Heading into the top of the sixth inning, the New York Yankees trailed the Tampa Bay Rays 2-0. Then Alex Rodriguez and the Yankees exploded.
With Johnny Damon and Mark Teixeira on base, Rodriguez hit a homer to put the Yankees up 2-0. Later in the same inning, Rodriguez came to bat with the bases loaded and hit a grand slam. One inning. Two homers. Seven RBIs. Not a bad way to end regular season play.

New York Yankees Clinch Playoff Spot
Although it wasn’t exactly a shocking development, the New York Yankees officially cemented a spot in the 2009 Major League Baseball playoffs with a victory on Monday. After a 6-5 victory of the Los Angeles Angels, the Yankees had an extremely mild celebration and continued on their goal to finish with the best record in baseball.

Alex Rodriguez Hits a Walk-Off in the 15th

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox played a classic game on Friday. In a game that was scoreless into the bottom of the 15th inning, Alex Rodriguez hit a 15th inning two-run homer to give the Yankees an emotional win.
With Derek Jeter on base, Rodriguez hit a home run off of Junichi Tazawa. Tazawa is a Red Sox reliever who was making his baseball debut. Rodriguez is now hitting .261 with 20 homers and 62 RBIs this season.

A-Rod’s Two Homers Not Enough for Yankees

Alex Rodriguez smashed two home runs for the New York Yankees on Saturday, however those two homers weren’t enough for the Yankees to beat the Los Angeles Angels. In a slugfest, the Angels powered their way to a 14-8 victory.
In the top of the first inning, Alex Rodriguez hit a two-run blast off of Jered Weaver. Rodriguez hit another homer in the top of the 8th.
But the story was the overall production from the Angels lineup. Bobby Abreu and Mike Napoli each had three RBIs, while Gary Matthews Jr., Howie Kendrick and Brandon Wood knocked in two RBIs apiece.

A.J. Burnett Dominant Against Mets

When the New York Yankees gave A.J. Burnett a big contract in the offseason, this was the type of production they wanted. On Saturday against the New York Mets, Burnett gave up only one hit in seven innings while striking out ten. His pitching effort led the Yankees to a 5-0 victory.

Alex Rodriguez Benched for Two Games

Alex Rodriguez, the future Hall of Fame third baseman for the New York Yankees, will not play in the next two games. The Yankees have decided to bench their slugger due to fatigue.
It’s already been a very tumultuous year for Rodriguez. Earlier in the year, he admitted to past steroid use. Rodriguez also underwent offseason hip surgery that forced him to miss the beginning of the 2009 baseball campaign.
