Venezuela Advances, Mexico Goes Home

On Monday, two exciting contests took place during the 2009 World Series Classic. The first game saw Cuba go up against Mexico. The loser of this game was to be eliminated.
After getting up early, Cuba saw Mexico tie the ballgame. But a five-run spurt put Cuba up for good. Mexico made a late rally but it was too little, too late for Mexico. Cuba, on the other hands, lives to play another day.

Cuba Roster – 2009 World Baseball Classic

Although none of their players plays in the MLB, Cuba is regarded as one of the favorites in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. There’s no doubting the talent on this roster. If all things were equal, a number of these players would make it in the major leagues. Here’s Cuba’s roster in the 2009 WBC:

Alexei Ramirez at Spring Training

Alexei Ramirez is one of the latest Cuban defectors to land in a big-league organization. He played second base in the game I saw, and didn’t do much to distinguish himself one way or the other, but some folks think he’ll end up in the outfield. As you can see, Ramirez has quite the uppercut swing.
