The big hit for the Rays came in the fifth inning with Carlos Pena knocked in two runs with a double to put Tampa Bay up 3-1. Adam Lind had an RBI in the seventh but the Jays weren’t able to score any more runs.

The Rays are now 47-39 on the season. While they have one of the best records in the American League, the bad news is that they are behind both the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox in the AL East.

Also in the AL East, the Jays are now 43-44 and nine games back in the division.

Price, who is regarded by some as the best pitching prospect in baseball, got the final four outs to record his first career save. After Price was called up from the minors he didn’t record a win or a save in the regular season, but has one of each in the 2008 playoffs.

The hitting star for the Rays was Willy Aybar, who went 2-3 with a solo home run and also scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to break a 1-1 tie. On the mound, starting pitcher Matt Garza was amazing. He went seven innings and gave up only two hits and one earned run while striking out nine batters. The only run he gave up to the defending World Series champion Red Sox was a Dustin Pedroia home run in the first inning.

Now the Rays advance to take on the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series. Since the American League won the All-Star Game, the Rays will have home field advantage. The 2008 World Series begins on Wednesday in Tampa Bay.

Here is a video with 2008 ALCS MVP Matt Garza:

David Price has been called up by the Tampa Bay Rays and may start as soon as Saturday. Price, who is considered one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball, has pitched increasingly well in the minor leagues this season.
Price first made his name as a stud pitcher at Vanderbilt University. Now, a short time later, Price will try to help the Rays make the playoffs.

If Price does make a start in the coming days, you can bet the eyes of baseball will all be focused on one of the game’s most exciting prospects.
