Rumors swirling around Seattle have Ken Griffey Jr. returning to the Mariners. Griffey, who is arguably the best player in franchise history, would reportedly sign a one-year contract.
Griffey, who is now 39-years-old, spent nearly a decade with the Mariners. Beginning in 1989 as an 18-year old, Griffey dazzled Mariners fans with his great play in centerfield and his powerful hitting stroke.

Check out this video of Ken Griffey, Jr. giving Cincinnati Reds broadcaster Jeff Brantley a throat slash gesture. The video of the incident is at the end of this entry.
The story behind the throat slash by Griffey is in regards to comments Brantley allegedly made recently. According to reports, Brantley said that Griffey is pouting because the Reds haven’t picked up Griffey’s multi-million dollar option. Griffey obviously wasn’t too happy with those comments and showed it after hitting a homer.

Ken Griffey, Jr. 600th Homer Video

On Monday, Ken Griffey, Jr. hit his 600th homer to become just the sixth player to reach that number. With 600 homers, Griffey now trails only Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays and Sammy Sosa. If Griffey can hit ten more homers this season, he will pass Sosa and move into fifth place.
Griffey’s long ball came off of Mark Hendrickson in the first inning. The Cincinnati Reds went on to beat the Florida Marlins 9-4. On the season, Griffey is now batting .260 with seven homers and 29 RBI.

Rookie Sensation? Reds Jay Bruce Called Up

The Cincinnati Reds have decided to give their batter order a bit of a jolt by calling up super outfield prospect Jay Bruce. Bruce, who is currently tearing up minor league pitching, will be called up on Tuesday.
Currently, the Reds outfield isn’t producing much at the plate. Ken Griffey, Jr., Adam Dunn and Corey Patterson are each batting less than .255. The 21-year-old Bruce will be given a shot to earn an everyday spot in the lineup. Patterson, who is hitting around the Mendoza line, seems to be the most likely one to be the odd …read more
