Although Griffey obviously doesn’t fit into the rebuilding the Mariners are going through, his presence on the team could draw more fans to the ballpark and in turn bring in more money for the team. Griffey would get a chance to end his career in the place it started and cement himself as the best player in team history.

No specific numbers are known on the one-year deal Griffey would get from the Mariners, although rumblings insist that it could be a one-year, $5 million contract with some built-in performance bonuses.

Check out this video of Ken Griffey, Jr. giving Cincinnati Reds broadcaster Jeff Brantley a throat slash gesture. The video of the incident is at the end of this entry.
The story behind the throat slash by Griffey is in regards to comments Brantley allegedly made recently. According to reports, Brantley said that Griffey is pouting because the Reds haven’t picked up Griffey’s multi-million dollar option. Griffey obviously wasn’t too happy with those comments and showed it after hitting a homer.

With 600 homers, Griffey now trails only Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays and Sammy Sosa. If Griffey can hit ten more homers this season, he will pass Sosa and move into fifth place.
Griffey’s long ball came off of Mark Hendrickson in the first inning. The Cincinnati Reds went on to beat the Florida Marlins 9-4. On the season, Griffey is now batting .260 with seven homers and 29 RBI.

The Cincinnati Reds have decided to give their batter order a bit of a jolt by calling up super outfield prospect Jay Bruce. Bruce, who is currently tearing up minor league pitching, will be called up on Tuesday.
Currently, the Reds outfield isn’t producing much at the plate. Ken Griffey, Jr., Adam Dunn and Corey Patterson are each batting less than .255. The 21-year-old Bruce will be given a shot to earn an everyday spot in the lineup.
Currently, the Reds outfield isn’t producing much at the plate. Ken Griffey, Jr., Adam Dunn and Corey Patterson are each batting less than .255. The 21-year-old Bruce will be given a shot to earn an everyday spot in the lineup. Patterson, who is hitting around the Mendoza line, seems to be the most likely one to be the odd man out.

In the minor leagues, Bruce is hitting .364 at Triple-A. He was drafted in the first round by the Reds with the 12th overall selection in 2005. It’s long be known that Bruce is Cincinnati’s outfielder of the future. Apparently, that future begins on Tuesday.
