Kevin Gregg Named Chicago Cubs Closer

After incumbent closer Kerry Wood left the Chicago Cubs in free agency, many baseball insiders believed that the team would simply hand over the closer role to Carlos Marmol. Marmol spent 2008 as the Cubs setup man and he did a fine job in that role. However, after a shaky spring, manager Lou Piniella has decided to give the closer job to Kevin Gregg.

Mike Jacobs of the Florida Marlins traded to the Kansas City Royals for Leo Nunez
The Royals will hope that Jacobs can add some pop to their lineup, while Nunez should improve the bullpen of the Marlins
Scott Olsen and Josh Willingham of the Florida Marlins traded to the Washington Nationals for Emilio Bonifacio, P.J. Dean and Jake Smolinski
The Marlins were able to shed some salary and pick up a few decent prospects, while the Nationals added a good pitching prospect in Olsen and a good bat in Willingham.
Matt Holliday of the Colorado Rockies traded to the Oakland Athletics for Huston Street, …read more
