Manny Ramirez and Dodgers Continue Negotiations

The biggest name on the free agent market is undoubtedly Manny Ramirez. Ramirez, who split last season between the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers, has turned down the latest contract offer from the Dodgers.
The offer from L.A. is believed to be $45 million over two seasons. However, Ramirez’s camp feels that the offer isn’t that impressive because it calls for a portion of the salary to be deferred.

Randy Wolf Signs with Los Angeles Dodgers

Rand Wolf, who we had listed as one of the top ten MLB free agents, has agreed to join the Los Angeles Dodgers. His contract calls for him to be paid between $5 million and $8 million depending on incentives.
Wolf had a solid season in 2008, splitting it between the San Diego Padres and the Houston Astros. Combined, Wolf had a 12-12 record and a 4.30 ERA. His 12 wins were the most he’s had since he put up 16 wins in 2003 with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Manny Ramirez Rejects Offer from Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers offered Manny Ramirez a one-year deal worth $25 million. Shortly thereafter, Ramirez rejected the deal. According to speculation, Ramirez is waiting for a long-term offer with an average salary of at least $20 million.
Ramirez, who we have rated as the best free agent in baseball, is a player who can carry a team on his back — as we saw last year with the Dodgers. After going to Los Angeles in a midseason trade with the Boston Red Sox, Ramirez hit .396 with 17 homers and 53 RBIs in 53 games.
