			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A few days ago, we gave an update on <a href="http://www.everyjoe.com/knucklecurve/pedro-martinez-injury-update/">Pedro Martinez and his injury</a>.  Now there is talk from Martinez about possible retiring at the end of the season.  Martinez says that he needs to take care of his family &#8211; specifically his ill father.</p>
<p><img src="http://www.everyjoe.com/knucklecurve/files/2008/05/pedro-martinez-retire-mets_nc.jpg" alt="pedro martinez retire" align="right" />While his contract with the New York Mets ends at the end of the season, the 36-year-old right hander would no doubt be offered work by a major league team if he wanted to keep playing after this season.  He has battled a lot of injuries in recent years but he still has a presence on the mound and can be a great pitcher at times.</p>
<p>The Mets currently stand at 22-21 and they are in desperate need of some energy.  If Martinez can return to the mound in the next few weeks, he could give the team the boost it needs to get back to their winning ways.</p>
