Corey Hart Undergoes Appendectomy

Corey Hart, the right fielder for the Milwaukee Brewers, was recently complaining of pains in his stomach and side. On Monday, the Brewers found out there was good reason for complaints. After an appendectomy, Hart was placed on the DL.
Hart started telling team doctors that something was wrong after he went 0-for-3 on Saturday against the San Diego Padres. Ken Macha, the manager of the Brewers, was thankful for how the surgery went down.
Said Macha: “The medical people in San Diego were terrific. To get that all scheduled and done on a Sunday was pretty awesome, so thanks to those …read more

Joe Martinez Hit by a Line Drive – Video

Joe Martinez, a pitcher for the San Francisco Giants, suffered three fractures and a concussion after being hit by a line drive off the bat of Mike Cameron in a game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night. Although Martinez will be forced to remain in the hospital for the next few days, the Giants are confident that he will be able to make a full recovery.

The incident took place in the ninth inning with the Giants up 7-1. As the ball hit Martinez, Carmeron became visible upset. After being attended to by team doctors, Martinez was able to walk …read more

Eric Gagne Signs with Milwaukee Brewers

Eric Gagne, who at times has been an extremely dominant reliever, has signed a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers. Although Gagne has no guarantee of actually making the team, the Brewers will obviously hope that he can recover from the injuries that have derailed his career.
If Gagne makes the Brewers, he will receive at least $1.5 million from the team. That salary could rise to $4.5 million if he meets all of the performance bonuses.
The 2003 Cy Young Award winner had a disastrous 2008 campaign. He finished the season with a 5.44 ERA and only recorded ten saves …read more

Ben Sheets Considers Elbow Surgery

Ben Sheets, a free agent pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers who starting the 2008 MLB All-Star Game this season for the National League, is considering having elbow surgery that will knock him out of action for the 2009 campaign. The timing of his surgery is obviously a disappointment considering that his free agent stock would drop considerably.
Before this news broke, we had Ben Sheets ranked as a top ten baseball free agent. Last season, Sheets had a 13-9 record and a 3.09 ERA. Over the last five seasons, the 30-year-old hurler hasn’t had an ERA higher than 3.82.
If Sheets has …read more

Prince Fielder Gets Two-Year Contract

The Milwaukee Brewers and first baseman Prince Fielder have agreed on a contract that will pay Fielder $18 over the next two seasons. The two-year deal locks up arguably Milwaukee’s most feared bat and gives Fielder some security.
Fielder had asked for $8 million this season in salary arbitration. After this deal is up, he’ll again be eligible for arbitration.
Last season, Fielder played well but not as well as he did in 2007. In 2007, Fielder hit 50 homers and had 119 RBIs, 109 runs and a batting average of .288. Last season, Fielder had 34 homers to go along with …read more

Trevor Hoffman Signs with Brewers

Earlier this week, we labeled Trevor Hoffman as one of the top sleepers on the free agent market. The Milwaukee Brewers apparently agreed and they’ve signed the veteran closer to a deal worth a guaranteed $6 million. There are rumors that Hoffman could make more via bonuses and that there might be an optional second year to the contract.
At 41, Hoffman is somewhat a risk for the Brewers. But considering the fact that he’s one of the best closers in baseball history and the fact that he has at least 30 saves in his last 13 full seasons, it’s an …read more

CC Sabathia Signs with New York Yankees

The New York Yankees finally got their guy. CC Sabathia, the free agent pitcher previously with the Milwaukee Brewers, has reportedly agreed to a seven-year, $161 million contract with New York.
A unique aspect about the deal is the fact that it has an opt-out clause for Sabathia after three seasons. According to reports, Sabathia wanted that clause in case he and his family were not able to adapt to the city of New York. Sabathia, who grew up in California, apparently didn’t want to take a bite out of the Big Apple without having an out clause.
For the Yankees, this …read more

Yankees and free agent CC Sabathia Update

A report on the first day of baseball free agency has the New York Yankees extending an offer to CC Sabathia that will make him the highest paid pitcher in all of baseball. The offer is believed to be six-years and worth a total of $140 million.
Sabathia was expected to receive big offers — but this offer was even bigger than expected. However, the fact that the Yankees are interested in Sabathia doesn’t come as a surprise. In fact, we predicted Sabathia would sign with the Yankees.
The reasons why the Yankees are so interested are obvious. In the 2008 …read more

Cubs Swept Video – Cubs Eliminated from Playoffs

Many baseball experts had the Chicago Cubs as the favorites to win the 2008 World Series. Cubs fans were also hopeful that the 100-year curse could finally be over. Those hopes, however, will have to wait another year.
The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Cubs on Saturday to successfully complete a 3-0 sweep. The Dodgers, who won the game 3-1, will move on to face the winner of the Philadelphia Phillies and the Milwaukee Brewers series. The Phillies currently lead that series 2-1.
The video of the Cubs getting swept will be hard for Cubs fans to stomach. Rich Harden, who the …read more
