The biggest name on the free agent market is undoubtedly Manny Ramirez. Ramirez, who split last season between the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers, has turned down the latest contract offer from the Dodgers.
The offer from L.A. is believed to be $45 million over two seasons. However, Ramirez’s camp feels that the offer isn’t that impressive because it calls for a portion of the salary to be deferred.

Although Ramirez is a player almost every team in baseball would love to have, the struggling economy has put a damper on free agency during the offseason. And though teams like the San Francisco Giants have reportedly shown interest in Ramirez, it is believed that the Dodgers are the only team going strongly after the slugger at this point.

Most likely, Ramirez will end up with Los Angeles when this is all said and done. With the regular season a ways away still, expect Ramirez and his camp to stretch this out as long as possible to squeeze every dime possible out of the Dodgers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers offered Manny Ramirez a one-year deal worth $25 million. Shortly thereafter, Ramirez rejected the deal. According to speculation, Ramirez is waiting for a long-term offer with an average salary of at least $20 million.
Ramirez, who we have rated as the best free agent in baseball, is a player who can carry a team on his back — as we saw last year with the Dodgers. After going to Los Angeles in a midseason trade with the Boston Red Sox, Ramirez hit .396 with 17 homers and 53 RBIs in 53 games.

Although Ramirez’s possible destinations are somewhat limited these days, one possibility is Ramirez signing with the San Francisco Giants. The Giants desperately need a bat in the middle of their lineup and Ramirez could definitely answer that bell.

While the Dodgers appear willing to wait for Ramirez, there is growing sentiment that the franchise has grown frustrated with the process. They’ve yet to be given a number for Ramirez’s camp and one of their previous offers was simply ignored.

Jonathan Papelbon, the outspoken closer for the Boston Red Sox, bluntly asserted that his team doesn’t miss Manny Ramirez. You can see the video at the end of this entry.
In the five minute video, Papelbon rambles on a number of different topics. However, the juiciest segment is when he talks about former teammate Manny Ramirez. Ramirez, who was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the trade deadline, reportedly became unpopular with players, coaches and even ownership in his last few months in Boston.
Here is the Jonathan Papelbon video where he discusses Manny Ramirez:
