To lead off the second inning, Rick Porcello hit Kevin Youkilis. Youkilis reacted by dropping his bat and running toward Porcello. On his way to the mound, Youkilis threw his helmet. A couple seconds later, both players were on the ground.

When the dust settled, the Red Sox had beaten the Tigers by a final count of 7-5. Mike Lowell, who entered the game after Youkilis was ejected, ended up being the star. His third inning homer broke a tie and then he gave Boston a three-run lead with a two-run blast in the fifth.

The Red Sox desperately needed the win after recently getting swept by the New York Yankees. After their win on Tuesday, Boston is 5.5 games behind New York.

Here is video of the brawl between the Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers:

However, with multiple heroic hits by the never say die Red Sox, Boston was able to pull off one of the greatest comebacks in postseason history by winning the game 8-7.

Even though the Rays still lead the series 3-2, it appears as if all the pressure is now on the Rays to advance. Previously, the Rays were able to play free and easy. It will be interesting to see what happens now that the Rays feel pressure — for perhaps the first time all season.

After coming back from an 3-0 deficit against the New York Yankees, the Red Sox have been known as a team that never gives up. Their current situation may seem bleak but it compared to the 3-0 hole they dug out of, it’s a walk in the park.

Will the Tampa Bay Rays be able to beat the Boston Red Sox in Game 6 to advance to the 2008 World Series? Find out on Saturday at 8:07 PM ET.

Here is the highlight video of Game 5 of the Rays versus the Red Sox if you missed it:

This is one of the oddest videos you will ever see from a baseball game. Against the Kansas City Royals, Jason Bay of the Boston Red Sox hit a ball deep into the outfield. Mitch Maier tried to make a leaping catch in the outfield. Instead of coming down with the ball, the ball rolled along the top of the fence.
Players, coaches and broadcasters for both the Royals and the Red Sox both said they had never seen something like this happen. It’s definitely a play that Jason Bay, Mitch Maier and Ross Gload will never forget.

Here is the video of the Jason Bay hit that turned out to be just a double due to the great effort of Mitch Maier and the quick thinking of Ross Gload:
