Richie Sexson has had an interesting ride in 2008. While with the Seattle Mariners, Sexson struggled to swing the bat — hitting .218 in 74 games with the Mariners. Along the way, Sexson threw his helmet at a pitcher and started a brawl. For his effort, he was suspended and subsequently waived by the Mariners.
Now it appears as if Sexson has reappeared as a member of the New York Yankees. According to multiple reports, Sexson is set to sign a contract with the Yankees. He should see time on the field at both …read more

Richie Sexson, the 6-foot-8 first baseman on the Seattle Mariners, is rumored to be getting released soon. Sexson hasn’t done much at the plate this season, however he did manage to start a brawl by throwing his helmet at a pitcher.
For the helmet tossing fiasco, Sexson was suspended five games. On the season, Sexson is hitting .216 with nine homers and 23 RBIs. He has been playing less and less for Seattle, and now it appears he won’t be playing at all.

Richie Sexson Gets Five Game Suspension

After Richie Sexson charged the mound, threw his helmet and instigated a brawl for no apparent reason, his punishment is a five-game suspension. He originally got six games but appealed and got one game taken off of the total. If you haven’t seen the video, check Richie Sexson brawl video.
Considering that Sexson throwing the helmet was dangerous and how unprovoked the entire incident was, the 6-foot-8 first basemen for the Seattle Mariners got off easy. Kason Gabbard, the pitcher for the Texas Rangers who got hit the flying helmet, luckily didn’t get injured in the incident.

Richie Sexson Charges Mound, Starts Brawl

What was Richie Sexson thinking? If you haven’t seen the video of Sexson charging the mound, check out the video at the end of this entry.
Texas Rangers pitcher Kason Gabbard threw a pitch that was a tad high on the 6-foot-8 Sexson. The pitch didn’t seem too malicious, yet Sexson sprints to the mound. Even worse, Sexson throws his batting helmet at Gabbard before he even reaches him.
Expect Sexson to be suspended for about a week. He didn’t have any business charging the mound and throwing his helmet was classless and dangerous. …read more
