Beckett and Halladay, NL West Showdown

Hello, and welcome to Tuesday. Did you have an enjoyable Labor Day weekend? I hope you were able to keep cool. It’s been very hot here (by our standards) this past week. But nobody wants to hear some yahoo in San Diego complain about the weather, right? Let’s get to the games:
American League

Blue Jays at Red Sox, 4:05 p.m. PT — Blue and red, birds and items of clothing, two really good pitchers. This game has it all. Roy Halladay’s been kicking butt for several years now, ever since he reinvented himself in 2001, but what’s gotten into Josh Beckett? …read more

Clemens, Maddux, Moyer: Oldies, but Goodies

Super lightning quick, here are your games for Friday:

Yankees at Tigers, 4:05 p.m. PT — It seems like these two teams are always playing each other. Anyway, Roger Clemens and Andrew Miller makes for an interesting matchup. Aside from the fact that Clemens is twice as old as Miller, it’s also worth noting that lefties are hitting just .140/.241/.180 against the young southpaw. Granted, it’s in all of 60 plate appearances, but yikes.
Blue Jays at Angels, 7:05 p.m. PT — Roy Halladay and Jered Weaver hook up at Anaheim. If I didn’t have a softball game, I’d make the drive …read more

Bonderman, Halladay, Peavy, and Webb — Oh, My!

Happy Monday, folks. Hope your weekend was good. Mine would have been better if the Padres had won their 17-inning marathon on Sunday. Still, a bad day at the ballpark beats a good day just about anywhere else.
With that pathetic attempt at wit out of the way, here’s what we’re keeping an eye on today:
American League

Orioles at Tigers, 4:05 p.m. PT – Young? Check. Throws hard? Check. Okay, then, I guess we’ll watch Daniel Cabrera and Jeremy Bonderman square off at Comerica Park. You know about Bonderman, but Cabrera seems to be figuring things out in his second season under …read more

This is more like it. We’ve got a full schedule of good pitching matchups on Friday. Here are some of the better ones:

Halladay and Kazmir Hook Up in Tampa

What’s on tap for today? Here are some of your best bets:
American League

Blue Jays at Devil Rays, 10:40 a.m. PT – Roy Halladay and Scott Kazmir would be instant Cy Young Award candidates in a league that didn’t feature Johan Santana. Tampa Bay has some unbelievably talented young player — Rocco Baldelli, Carl Crawford, Elijah Dukes, B.J. Upton. If these guys can get any kind of pitching, they’ve got a chance to go somewhere. Like, um, fourth place in the AL East.
Twins at White Sox, 11:05 a.m. PT – Division rivals. Santana gets the start for Minnesota. John Danks, a …read more

Duel in Detroit, Making a Meche of Things, and Other Games to Watch on Monday

Really. That is a terrible headline, and I do apologize. I’m still in spring training. Time to put that behind me and get serious.
Okay, then. Lots of games to watch today. When you’ve been waiting this long, I’d venture to say they’re all worth checking out, but here are a few in particular that have piqued my interest:
National League

Braves at Phillies, 10:05 a.m. PT – Take the day off, slap together some breakfast, and watch John Smoltz battle Brett Myers. Sounds like a good plan to me. Smoltz needs just 7 more wins to reach 200 for his career. What …read more
