Not too long ago, Josh Hamilton was out of baseball and addicted to drugs. Few wondered whether his baseball career would ever be resurrected, they just wondered if he’d live to see the next day.
Hamilton’s baseball journey started when he was the first overall pick of the 1999 baseball draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Geremi Gonzalez, a former Major League Baseball pitcher, was killed following a lightning strike in Venezuela. Gonzalez, who was originally from Venezuela, was only 33.
Gonzalez spent parts of six seasons in the majors. He best seasons came in 1997 in his rookie year as a member of the Chicago Cubs. That season, Gonzalez went 11-9 with a 4.25 ERA.
