The New York Yankees are the 2009 champions of baseball. With a 7-3 victory in Game 6 of the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, the Yankees won the 27th World Series title of their history.
Hideki Matsui, who was named the World Series MVP, was the big bat in New York’s lineup in Game 6. He drove in six of their seven runs on the night. The New York Yankees are headed back to the World Series. In Game 6, Andy Pettitte dominated on the mound and Alex Rodriguez had another memorable game as the Yankees beat the Los Angeles Angels by a final count of 5-2.
The Angels actually got on the board first when Bobby Abreu hit an RBI single in the third inning. However, the Yankees got the lead for good in the fourth. Johnny Damon hit a two-run single and then Rodriguez drew a walk with the bases loaded to score Derek Jeter.

A day after the Los Angeles Angels were able to climb out of an early hole, the New York Yankees put Game 4 of the ALCS away for good. After building a 5-0 lead after five innings, the Yankees went on to win by a final count of 10-1.
The two biggest stars for the Yankees were Alex Rodriguez and C.C. Sabathia. Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBIs and a walk. His big hit came in the form of a two-run homer in the fifth inning.
