That Honus Wagner — What a Card!

February 28, 2007 by Geoff Young

In the “I’ve got too much money on my hands” department comes this story of a 1909 Honus Wagner tobacco card that has been sold for $2.35 million. Hockey legend Wayne Gretzky once owned the card, often referred to as the “Holy Grail of baseball cards.”

Holy Grail? Holy something.

Wagner has been dead for over 50 years, and his card is fetching more than three times as much as both MVP winners were paid combined in 2006. That’s what I call staying power.
