Tigers Sign Casey

The Tigers acquired Sean Casey from the Pittsburgh Pirates late in the 2006 season and although he didn’t do much in 53 regular-season games with his new team, he ended up being one of the few bright spots for Detroit in the World Series. Casey has re-signed with the Tigers for 1 year, $4 million. He doesn’t hit a lot of home runs, but his gaps power and strong on-base skills — which call to mind former Angels and Padres first baseman Wally Joyner — should serve him well for another few years.
Solid player at a reasonable price, with no long-term commitment. What’s not to like?
