Tigers Sign Eischen

January 30, 2007 by Geoff Young

The Detroit Tigers have inked left-handed reliever Joey Eischen to a 1-year minor-league deal that would be worth $700,000 if he is added to the active big-league roster during the regular season. Eischen was hurt most of last year, but posted a 3.22 ERA over 57 appearances for the Washington Nationals in 2005.

Eischen turns 37 in May, so there are no guarantees he’ll bounce back. Still, as with the Arthur Rhodes signing, there isn’t a lot of downside here. More teams should be looking to add bullpen depth in this fashion.
