Tigers Take Game 1 in Oakland

Barry Zito was touched up for five runs in 3 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits (two homers) and three walks while striking out none as the Oakland A’s dropped the ALCS opener at home against the Detroit Tigers. Brandon Inge and Ivan Rodriguez homered for the Tigers in support of Nate Robertson, who spun five scoreless innings before turning the game over to the bullpen.

Not an inspiring start for the A’s or for Zito, who will be one of the most sought-after free agents this winter. Of course, his goal is to help lead Oakland to the championship, but he’s also showcasing his talents to anyone with deep pockets and the need for a quality left-hander. I doubt this is the outcome he’d envisioned for himself and his current ballclub.
