Torre Snags 1000th Win
With all the hullabaloo about Barry Bonds’ not-so-silent sneak up on Babe Ruth’s second place home-run record, poor Joe Torre’s landmark victory almost got swept under the rug! That’s right, big win number 1000 happened just yesterday. Not bad for the guy the NY Daily News called “Clueless Joe” now is it?
Along with the 1000 wins also came 4 World Series titles; not too shabby huh? Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a card-carrying Yankee hater, always have been, and always will be, but I can’t help but give him a whole heck of a lot of credit, and, dare I say, a bit of a golf clap for this milestone. 1000 wins isn’t easy, for anyone, no matter what kind of absurd budget you have, crazy dictator for a boss, or all-star lineup. So, I’m a big enough man to say, Congratulations Joe Torre!
Now, Red Sox, how about we step up and make sure that his next 1000 wins include as LITTLE victories over us as possible? Can we do that? I hope so.

Heck, I owuld have 1,000 wins if I were managing the Yankees. What did Torre do for the Braves, Cardinals and Mets? Then, he takes over a team with a billion-dollar payroll and suddenly he is considered a great manager? I’d like to see him go to the Marlins, Devil Rays or even the Twins and see what sort of record he puts up. Then I will consider his value as a manager.
I stand by my opinion that no matter what your teams budget or talent level, winning 1000 games aint easy. Look at what happened with the U.S.A. Basketball team…best grouping of players in the world, where’d we end up?
