The Boston Red Sox added some depth to their bullpen on Friday by trading for Wes Littleton. Littleton, who was with the Texas Rangers, was traded for a package that included two players to be named later and cash considerations.

Wes Littleton

Littleton is a 26-year-old reliever who is coming off of a rough season in which he had an ERA of 6.00. He pitched in only 12 games and had 14 strikeouts in 18 innings.

The Red Sox traded for Littleton, who attended college at Cal State Fullerton, with hopes that he could return to the form he had as a rookie. In 2006, Littleton had a 1.73 ERA in 32 appearances.

Although the Rangers desperately need to help their pitching, Littleton didn’t figure to be a big part of their plans going forward. The Rangers are hoping to get some useful assets as they try to rebuild into a winner.
