Dinesh Patel and Rinku Singh signed with the Pirates. What are the pirates thinking? they trade away all their good players like Jason Bay and leave some of their best pitchers in triple a.(Gorzealanny and Snell) Then they go and sign 2 pitchers who at times hit 90 mph but with no breaking balls. They’re going to get crushed in the big leagues and probably even the farm system. I wonder what the pirates trying to build, but I know its not a franchise.

  2. it’s sad when halladay only gives up like 2 runs in 9 innings and the offense can’t even do their part?

  3. Maria says:

I agree with George up there… He should NOT be awarded for his temper…what if the guy had died? What if he is on the field and does it again? Forget about this guy leave him in the dust!

  4. M.H.T. Righter says:

I have a son in baseball,He is a highschool star.We are now rethinking, maybe he should pick a new sport. With ortiz, rodiguez, sosa, manny and many more, how can he get to the SHOW?,without the juice? I see sports wrighters blowing it of with the statment of “There has always be cheating in baseball”. The MLB it self has not got it under control…What a shame.. If I wan’t to see drugies I can go downtown, and I won’t spend $140 to see them..

I did not know Greg Montalbano, but I knew the whole Montalbano family, and his sister Kristen, who excelled also at everything she did..Field Hockey, Valdeictorian I think, President of our Class, and many other accomplishments.
I think it is due to good nurturing, plenty of responsibility given and accountability taught at an early age. Being in the Scouts I think is an age old tradition that is dying, and that is sad because it truly teaches a boy to be a man.
My sympathies and prayers to the Montalbano Family, and the pride they deserve is given through columns like this one, over and over again, Greg’s story is told, and whether you knew him or not, it is a story of courage and risk, of family and triumph even against insurmountable odds.
Great Column and KUDOS to Youkillis for rightly honoring a great man!

Is it possible that if SF is the wildcard, that they would throw Lincecum and Cain 2x each?

  7. sandrar says:

Hi! I was surfing and found your blog post… nice! I love your blog. :) Cheers! Sandra. R.

  8. Steve says:

It’s been an incredible season for Greinke, just incredible. Those numbers are pretty astounding. I think, however, that there would be a whole lot more fuss about his season if he was with a more successful side than the Royals…

  9. Steve says:

I think Texas have really progressed this season. I can see them having a big season next year, if they have a little more luck on the injury front. I’ll be keeping an eye on them in Spring Training (is it too early to say that?).

  10. This is very interesting to hear that ……but last time who buckled under a few hundred grand last year, will now spend in excess of 20MM on their 1st round picks.

  11. mike says:

Hahahahahah, ow that LAD has won first game whats ur excuse?

    U suk!!!!!!!

  12. Deven says:

Anxiety is a tough thing to overcome for just about anyone…

It goes to show that even Professional Athletes have a hard time coping with such a horrific disease…

Sometimes being a superstar has its’ bad sides as well…

I wish Dontrell the best and a successful recovery

  13. pickingpros says:

This has been a fantastic serties. I think the yanks should throw in CC for game 6 bc of the rain delay. That way he will have rest for game 1 of world series if they make it, pettite can handle game 7 in case of loss.

  14. Chad Dodson says:

WTF why does he need to apologize for anything he did nothing wrong. McGwire used a steroid that was not banned at the time, who cares get over it the man did nothing wrong

  15. john franklin says:

It seems like McGwire DID do something wrong, since he dropped off the face of the earth. The real test will be to see how he handles critics once he starts as hitting coach. The mainstream media does seem to be taking it easy on him. Check out this video by Newsy.com and see what some of the opinion makers on television are saying: http://bit.ly/Al8zE

  16. Tony says:

Why is A-ROID allowed to play Baseball when he’s been using Steroids since High School, and Barry Bonds is not allowed to play because he used Steroids for maybe 3 or 4 years?

Barry is one of the all time great hitters, and perhaps the best ever at looking over a pitch and working out a walk because pitchers refuse to challenge him, yet the fans have been cheated of watching him display his talents for the last 2 seasons. He may be getting old, but he can still hit.

Who do you most admire in the game of baseball, past AND present, and why?
