And now, back to our regularly scheduled program, already in progress…
- I am a former first-round pick.
- One of my minor-league teammates is now a big-league general manager.
- Another is now a big-league manager.
- I reached double digits in homers
sixfive times in my career. - In a sense, you might think of me as the successor to Bob Brenly and the predecessor to Jason LaRue.
Who am I?
Update 25 Mar 08: Terry Kennedy and Darren Daulton were excellent guesses, but I’m not either of them. Here are a few more clues:
- Three of my former teammates are in the Hall of Fame.
- My first big-league homer came off Danny Jackson.
- I once hit an inside-the-park grand slam.
Update 26 Mar 08: Okay, I’m an idiot; I totally screwed up one of my original clues. The guy we were looking for was Ron Karkovice, and he reached double digits in homers five times, not six. By my original criteria, Kennedy was a better fit. Sorry ’bout that, and thanks, Alex, for pointing out the mistake!

Terry Kennedy?
Alex: Nice guess, but not quite. Kennedy was a contemporary of Brenly. We’re looking for a guy whose career (mostly) came between that of Brenly and that of LaRue.
Is it Darren Daulton?
Not Daulton either, but nice try. I’m going to add more clues…
Pretty sure it is Ron Karkovice that you are thinking of, but I ruled him out originally because he only had 5 double digit homer seasons, not 6.
Alex, you are correct on both counts. I can’t believe I got that wrong. By my original criteria, your guess of Kennedy was dead-on. So I guess we’ll give you credit for two wins on this one.
Ha! I’d noted Karkovice, but ruled him out.
Yeah, yeah, I get it: everyone is smarter than me.
Not me but that doesn’t mean much, huh?
Heh, you’re just saying that to humor me.
