But as you say, this might have happened anyway. I guess what it comes down to is that Torre gives the front office one less scapegoat. Torre has a reputation as a good manager of veterans but hasn't he shown a willingness to use younger players too (Cano, Cabrera, the young pitchers)? I don't really know if that's the case but I wonder how much of his reputation is a result of a front office that stacks the roster with overpriced veterans, rather than an actual reluctance to use young players. However, I also expect the Dodgers to foolishly trade away some of their young talent so it's probably a moot point.
