The shopping spree for the New York Yankees continued when the team signed Mark Teixeira to an eight-year deal worth a whopping $180 million. Teixeria, who was the most sought after free agent in baseball this offseason, will step in and become the Yankees’ starting first baseman for the foreseeable future.

This news came shortly after the Los Angeles Angels dropped out of the Teixeria sweepstakes. Of the possible Teixeira destinations, the Yankees were able to beat out the Boston Red Sox, Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles.
Although Teixeira’s contract is an ungodly amount of money, his production indicates that he’s one of the best players in Major League Baseball. In 2007 and 2008, Teixeira played for three teams. He started off with the Rangers, who traded him to the Atlanta Braves. The Braves then ended up trading him to the Angels.
All told in 2008, Teixeira hit .308 with 33 homers and 121 RBIs. He has five consecutive seasons with at least 30 homers and at least 100 RBIs.
If you are a Yankees fan, you will undoubtedly have a great Christmas now that your favorite team has landed yet another baseball gift.
