YouTube and NBA — How About MLB?

My friend and colleague Angelo Fernandez at NBA Obsessed notes that Google and the NBA have reached a deal to host NBA videos on a dedicated YouTube channel. The kicker? Check this out:

Users will be encouraged to continue uploading NBA videos to YouTube. The top “Post Up the NBA” (e.g., user-submitted) videos each week will be compiled into a weekly “NBA Top 10 on YouTube” highlight reel that will be broadcast on the league’s cable NBA Channel. Users will be able to rate the “Post Up” videos.

So, like, this helps the league and basketball fans? I don’t get it; that seems way too simple and makes way too much sense. Wouldn’t it be sweet if MLB could swing something like this?

Why, yes, I believe it would.

Yeah I think this makes sense for all major professional sports. If the NHL got one then the MLB and NFL should by all means get one too!
