Happy Farm Causing Unhappiness?

Here I go again talking about a game that is somewhat sitting on the border between massively multiplayer online games and casual games. Hey, everybody needs a break some time! This time around, I’ve set my sights on Happy Farm, an application on the popular social networking site Facebook developed by Shanghai-based Five Minutes.
This game, err, application, is said to be so addictive that millions of players, especially in China, come in droves just to farm and steal crops.
Steal?
Yes, steal! This otherwise illegal activity forms part of the Happy Farm’s features. Sadly, it’s also the cause of much dismay for some of the game’s players.

The next big update to the hit free-to-play massively multiplayer online role-playing game Runes of Magic is finally here, and it comes with a lot of features to keep players busy in the coming months. The patch isn’t called “Fall of the Demon Lord” for nothing.
What is perhaps the best thing that Runes of Magic publisher Frogster Interactive Pictures AG is introducing to the game this time around is the opening of a new instance dungeon, the Demon Stronghold. After the rise of the Demon Lord and his minions, it’s time for the heroes of Taborea to storm the tryant’s …read more

That’s what they’re calling Camon Hero, a new title from online games publisher Uforia—a trading card massively multiplayer online role-playing game. At first, I couldn’t understand the reason behind it until I saw a list of some of its features, which includes card summoning and card creation.
The announcement story from Uforia on the acquisition of Camon Hero also came with a trailer. It’s posted on UforiaGamers’ YouTube channel, but I’m posting it here so you won’t have to go to the trouble of looking for it:
Looks amazing, eh, from a manga-ish point of view?
Moshi Monsters: Entertaining, Educational

I received news yesterday that trading cards in the children’s online game Moshi Monsters were made printable, which prompted me to check out the game that reportedly had more than 10 million registered players.
My first reaction was, “Yes, Moshi Monsters is definitely for kids.” As I moved through the registration process, however, I came to the conclusion that the game should be played with adult supervision, at least for children aged six or younger.
I say this because most children under six years old can’t read yet and Moshi Monsters, like many massively multiplayer online games, rely heavily on on-screen text …read more

North America-based online games publisher Uforia has just implemented a major content update for its massively multiplayer online first-person shooter Mercenary Wars. The update contains a playable character, four weapons, a bunch of items, and a clan match system.
“We are thrilled to be able to deliver this huge offering of new gameplay content, something for all levels of play and ability,” said Michael Min, producer of Mercenary Wars at Uforia. “We aim to build the most compelling gameplay experience for our players, and this new level of content shows that we are able to give them what they want.”

I’ve heard about online relationships blooming into something more, such as long marriages, but this news of a man and woman who met while playing World of Warcraft and eventually getting hitched in real life takes the cake.
In a posting on the World of Warcraft Europe forums, a player using the in-game nick Avlee profusely thanked the game’s developer and publisher Blizzard Entertainment for her husband.
Here’s an excerpt from World of Warcraft player Avlee’s post dated January 19th, 2010:
While people tend to sometimes go cynical when posting “Thank you, Blizzard,” this one’s very much for real. I met Erandel in …read more

No, no, no. GameHi Inc., the United States division of South Korean online games developer GameHi Co. Ltd., isn’t pulling the plug on free-to-play massively multiplayer online first-person shooter Sudden Attack. Quite the contrary, GameHi is releasing a new update for the game.
Here’s an excerpt from the announcement story from GameHi:
Atlantica Online: Time To Smell Flowery

When I started playing Atlantica Online in 2009, one of the first things I checked out first was the Title Buffs System, which gives bonuses to characters, ranging from damage increase to additional experience points for each monster slain, for a set period of time. If I knew then what I know now, I probably would have had an easier time gaining these Title Buffs.
One of the easiest to obtain—that is, if you know what to do—is the Smelling Flowery title buff, which gives an Atlantica Online character a seven percent bonus to attack and five percent bonus to defense …read more
Casvian OBT Extended? Nooooo!

The open beta testing phase of the browser-based massively multiplayer online game Casvian has been extended. I should be jumping around like a crazed Easter Bunny and screaming out my tonsils but I’m not. I don’t feel elated, I don’t feel like celebrating, and least of all, I don’t feel like logging in. It’s not because I loathe the game, believe me.
Actually, what I loathe is the extension of the open beta which is 1) ruining my already crazy schedule and 2) dashing my hopes of playing Casvian the right way. Huh? Don’t get it? Read on.

A few weeks ago, I wrote about my dilemma concerning Dragonica, a side-scrolling 3D massively multiplayer online role-playing game that is set to hit my side of the global pond real soon. I’ve been trying to enter the game since I received an installer from its local publisher, e-Games, but fail every time. I wonder why …
Several days ago, I received word from a very important person up at the online games publisher that the official trailer for Dragonica has just been released. It’s posted on YouTube, but if you don’t mind, I’d rather you view it within the confines …read more
