Yes, you read that right. Gaming giant 9you Inc., which is probably China’s biggest casual games operator, is gone. No, 9you isn’t closing shop; it’s actually growing. In its place is a new company that will merge 9you’s expertise with that of Shanghai Everstar Online Entertainment Co. Ltd., a firm specializing in interactive entertainment.

Here’s an excerpt of the announcement published on video gaming portal 17173:

9you Inc., one of the leading online content providers in China, recently announced its merger with Shanghai Everstar Online Entertainment Co. Ltd. The new company, Shanghai Nineyou Interactive Community and Media Co. Ltd., will further develop the brand awareness of 9you, officials said.

Details of the merger are as follows:

1. The company name of Shanghai Everstar Online Entertainment Co. Ltd. has been changed to Shanghai Nineyou Interactive Community and Media Co. Ltd. The company logo has also been changed. After this announcement, 9you will be known as Shanghai Nineyou Interactive Community and Media Co. Ltd.

2. The orientation of 9you will change from the former online games and interactive entertainment portal provider to interactive entertainment community provider so as to convey the business concept of interactive entertainment community building to Internet users and the public.

3. To fulfill the transfer of company value from product and service to user community, 9you has changed the content of Interactive Entertainment Portal to Interactive Entertainment Community in the logo. The aim of this change is to further present and spread the vision of 9you, also to build the concept foundation for the company’s next level.

Nineyou's new look

Whew! Sorry for the legal mumbo-jumbo. Well, don’t look at me, I didn’t understand a word of the announcement either. One thing’s for certain, however. This merger bodes of bigger things from 9you, uhmmm, I mean Shanghai Nineyou Interactive Community and Media Co. Ltd.
