China cracks down on games with erotic content

Yes, there you have it. China cracks the whip again, this time against what it suspects as soft pornography in online games. Here’s the lowdown from online games portal 17173:
China’s administration department has launched a campaign against erotic content on the Internet. Recently, the Ministry of Culture released a notice warning players about erotic content in some online games.
The list includes Red Light Center and Rexue Sanguo. In the notice, the administration department said it would take action against games that feature erotic content or those using suggestive pictures and vulgar language to attract players.
Hey, yeah, we’re all for that. Who wants smut to get in the way of a good romp in great online games like World of Warcraft or Warhammer? No one, of course.
Now, before you react negatively, let me point out that Red Light Center is not in the least a massively multiplayer online role-playing game, at least not in the traditional sense.
Here’s an excerpt from the Wikipedia entry on Red Light Center:
Red Light Center is a privately owned Massively Multi-User Reality site that was made available to the public early in 2006 by Utherverse Inc. It’s tag line is “Live Your Fantasy.”
Red Light Center is modeled after Amsterdam’s Red Light District. The online community site offers users virtual nightclubs, hotels, bars, movie theaters and stores. There is a virtual currency called Rays, which members can earn and use for services in the community.
The site offers community events such as parties, classes, meeting rooms, live music with dancing and art-gallery openings. These events are broadcast within the online universe. Users also have the ability to put on their own events to real audiences within the various Red Light Center theaters. In many locations, one can smoke hookahs of ganja and eat magic mushroomns, which can have their effects shaken off at the user’s choice.

Here’s a video. Watch it with discretion and consideration.
