China Online Games Industry Worth US$800M

That’s a lot of moolah, and I’m sure the online games industry in China will rake in even more revenue in years to come, considering most of its homegrown titles are slowly moving into other regions and countries.
Take, for instance, Perfect World Co. Ltd., which has been, aside from The9 and NetEase (because of the controversial changing of the guard for Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft franchise, in headlines worldwide. The success of Perfect World Entertainment, a wholly owned subsidiary of the China-based online games developer and operator, in publishing games in North America is testament to the growing strength of China’s online games industry.
Let’s take a closer look at the Chinese online games industry courtesy of a news item on portal 17173:
Chinese Online Game Industry Valued RMB 5.514B
According to the latest data released by Aalysys, the Chinese online game industry valued RMB 5.514 billion (roughly USD 800 million), a quarter-on-quarter increase of 8.3 percent. The industry was driven by the increased number of customers. As to the market layout, Shanda, Tencent and NetEase still took the lead.
Among the Top 3, Shanda took 19.6 percent of the total market with a total revenue of RMB 1.08 billion (around USD 158 million). Tencent made a revenue of RMB 0.91 billion this quarter, a quarter-on-quarter increase of 13 percent, ranking second with 16.5 percent market share. NetEase ranks third, with RMB 0.71 billion and 12.9 percent market share.
