Talk about get-rich-quick schemes. I’ve heard of—and to an extent participated in—real money trading in MMORPG items, but this one takes the cake.
China-based online gaming portal 17173 reported recently that a bug in an MMORPG that mass-produced game loots had tempted an IT firm employee last April into selling the contraband for profit.
How much did he get for this illicit activity? According to the report, he carted away over CYR 100,000 (roughly USD 14,000) after he had sold the loots to gamers.
What’s amazing was it took the IT company two months to discover the bug, and the police only caught the errant employee in October 2007.
The report, however, failed to mention the name of the firm and the game.
