Rumor or not: World of Warcraft player sues The9

World of Warcraft inspirational poster

I’m not sure whether it’s a rumor or not. I found it on one website, one that focuses on China-based MMORPGs, but not on other sites that specialize in MMORPG-related news.

Here are the details of the case as explained in an article on 17173.com:

The case, filed by a player questioning the banning of his account on March 7 by The9 due to suspicion of bug exploitation, was heard on July 4, 2008.

The9 claimed it had published notices on its World of Warcraft official website on two occasions, February 21 and 29, to warn players against exploiting bugs in the game.

The9 said some players continued exploiting bugs in the game and earning from these despite the warning.

In the complaint against The9, the player said his continued exploitation of bugs in World of Warcraft was not his fault because The9 failed to shut down maps with bugs, and didn’t even try to fix the bugs.

At the end of the hearing, the two parties still didn’t see eye to eye, prompting the court to hear the case on another day.

So who do you think is in the right? My money’s on The9.
