Runes of Magic Philippines!

IP E-Games, a publisher of online games in the Philippines, has finally broken its silence on what they hope will be the next big massively multiplayer online role-playing game hit. The alpha site of Runes of Magic Philippines is up and running but lacks depth. At present, it only contains a link to a registration page and a video of the game.

To be honest, I’ve known about the plan of E-Games to launch Runes of Magic, an MMORPG developed by Taiwan-based Runewaker Entertainment and adapted for the North American and European market by Frogster Interactive, in the Philippines for quite some time.

I should be glad that Runes of Magic is finally here, but I can’t seem to muster enough happy thoughts to make a dent in my stoic face. Perhaps it’s due to memories of my unhappy childhood in the North American server of the game. Don’t get me wrong, the game is great, especially if you consider the fact that it’s free-to-play. I just can’t get over the thought that my supposedly sexy and ultra-feminine character looks like a man in Runes of Magic.

Runes of Magic

Seriously now. I think E-Games should spend more time adapting Runes of Magic for the Philippine market. Filipino players are a fickle lot. If a game fails to tickle their fancy in the first week of open beta, it may never take off, and even a game as good as Runes of Magic isn’t immune to that.

Personally, I hate Runes of Magic’s gameplay. I find it achingly slow, although in hindsight I realize that it may just be the byproduct of the lag. The character sprites are also a break from the norm. Most Asian-made MMOs have curvaceous, too-good-looking-to-be-real female characters. The females of Runes of Magic, despite being Asian in origin, appear blocky and too muscular to be, uhmm, women.

No offense to old and new-found friends up at E-Games. Like I said, Runes of Magic is a good game, but some of its aspects just don’t cut it.

Runes of Magic has a couple of features that takes the cake, including the dual class system which allows player characters to choose a secondary profession when they reach level 10. There’s a full list of features on the website of Runes of Magic North America.

Speaking of features, I better hie off to the virtual world of Taborea and continue exploring it while an IP ban isn’t in place yet.

The lag I get from the international version is as good as an IP Block. LOLZ!

Try playing on a local server to avoid lag, I avoid international servers based offshore like the plague cos you gets such a high ping from them. It sucks when you go to attack someone, then boom, your wasted, lol.

At the moment I am playing whiskey wars, it’s a free text based MMORPG. Job quests are based on the hillbilly lifestyle of the 1970’s whiskey running era; so you get to run moonshine from the cops, steal stuff, and generally have fun. The best thing is the turn based attacks, cos you can have the RTS parts of the game running in real time in the background, so you don’t gotta dick around doing too much at once.

It’s clan based as well as single player, but to complete some of the job quests, you gotta be hooked up. Check it out.

maybe its about time for PH gamers to get used in a western style of mmorpg? like what uve said, not so pretty looking babes, and if you take a look at the character creaton there are some female faces that really looks like a man lol, as u move the slider to right, it gets older and manly-looking…well female mages and priestes still looking hot.

    • Robert Sanchez (subscribed) says:

Sir, we have been playing “western style of mmorpg” since Ragnarok.

      • Dave (subscribed) says:

ROMaddict, what is this “western style” you speak of? If by that, you mean violence, murder, & mayhem – Then yes, western style games have this; but I agree that character creation must have gorgeous babes.

I am not interested in playing an MMORPG in some adult fantasy with Japanese Manga style characters, though; but ya, it’s cool to see some nice characters in a game – Female, fantasy, or not. I believe ROMaddict should not put down PH gamers for their choice of game, nor make any assertions that PH gamers are stuck in a rut, & must seek gaming pleasure from “Western Style” games.

What does it matter, really, which game you choose? Personally, I play text based MMORPG because that’s what I like. ROMaddict, please don’t put down a Nation because you want more babes. PH gamers, as well as *any* gamer, will play the style, or game of their choice. There is no “Western Style”.

i doubt you clearly understood my point based on the way you reacted…PUTING DOWN PH GAMERS? where did you get that!!! did i say anything like PH GAMERS SUCK because they only play asian mmos? oh FYI runes of magic was develop by taiwanese developers and they just put some WESTERN ELEMENTS to it as what they’ve said to adapt the eu/us market….WESTERN STYLE term didn’t just came out from me, they used that term if you have read some interviews with the developers on the web…just google it. okay they define this western style term as slow paced, not so anime-looking faces, not so flashy effects, and not so grindy. come on, i know you could distinguish the two by playing them, the term really exists!.

I was just expressing how much i agree with the article that rom’s femme characters were not that anime-looking , which is so true. you’re reading too much on my post and jumped off the fence. im really surprised you typed paragraphs of total non-sense

but i agree with you in one thing, its a matter of choice.

oh i played ragnarok too, even though its patterned in Norse Myth, ITS A KOREAN MMO!!!!

        • romaddict says:

oh i just found another article that also used the WESTERN STYLE term.
just to educate you here it is:

  4. PH player says:

I believe its a matter of choice…some PH players prefer creating female char that looks like a man…. to some it grabs attention and put them in a more PK situation which makes the game more challenging…some prefer to play loner such as Guild Wars…oh yes we have GW in PH and also WOW just incase people are thinking that such games didn’t reach the said zone, and I know friends who completed the factions of GW….there are varieties of games PH players can choose from.
