Perfect World Unveils New MMORPG

It’s called Forsaken World and it has been under development since April 2009 under the name Project EM. No need to visit the website of Perfect World Co. Ltd. for the juicy details. It’s all over the Internet!
Here’s an excerpt from the press release announcing the new 3D fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game:
Perfect World Co. Ltd., a leading online game developer and operator based in China, has announced the introduction of a new 3D fantasy MMORPG, Forsaken World, which was developed under Project EM.
Developed by Perfect World, Forsaken World breaks new ground in terms of overall planning, programming and …read more

China Has 69 Million Online Gamers

Unbelievable? Yes, I know. It’ll be easier to believe the figure if you consider China’s population of about 1.3 billion and the number of titles its online games industry churns out and publishes every year.
According to China-based online games portal 17173, quoting news website Sina and statistics released by the China Internet Network Information Center, China has 69.31 million players of online games, a figure that is 24.8 percent higher than last year.
The report said large-scale casual game and massively multiplayer online role-playing game users account for 67.9 percent and 61 percent, respectively, of the total.
What may come as a …read more

The Tideborn On Perfect World International

Yes, it’s D-Day for the massive new content update for the hit free-to-play massively multiplayer online role-playing game Perfect World. Unfortunately, it seems China’s going first (for obvious reasons), followed by Perfect World International, or the North America-based servers. No biggie, we can wait. But don’t make us players of Perfect World in other countries wait long!
To while away the time, I’ve spent some hours researching on the Rising Tide update for Perfect World. It’s quite unfortunate that most of the resources are in Chinese. Good thing, though, that the expansion site for the Rising Tide update on Perfect …read more

Perfect World: Got My Genie … Now What?

After patching my Perfect World client to the latest version, Dawn of the Elementals, I headed down to the nearest Elemental Emissary, the one in the southern area of Dragon City, also known as Archosaur in the original (read: Chinese) version of the hit free-to-play massively multiplayer online role-playing game. There are six other emissaries: Dragon City North (555, 672), Sword City (435, 888), Beast City (250, 647), Feather City (324, 424), Dream Port (654, 370), and Universal City (128, 857). (Numbers in parentheses are coordinates.)
According to the guide posted by Level Up! Games, publisher of Perfect World on my …read more

Dawn Of The Elementals On Perfect World

If you’re a player of the hit free-to-play massively multiplayer online role-playing game Perfect World in North America, you may have already surmised that I’m not talking about Perfect World International but rather the franchise of the game on my side of the pond.
The Dawn of the Elementals update is finally (I say finally because the patch has already been implemented on other Perfect World servers across the globe) on Perfect World Philippines and its three servers, Dragon, Tiger and Serpent.
Well, I’m speaking prematurely here. Actually, the patch will be implemented tomorrow, November 23rd, 2009. Obviously, I can’t contain my …read more

Perfect World Tideborn Debuts On Nov. 25th

We can all breathe a collective sigh of relief as Perfect World Co. Ltd., developer of hit massively multiplayer online role-playing games like Ether Saga and Jade Dynasty, announces the upcoming alpha testing of the Tideborn patch for Perfect World on November 25th, 2009.
I’m calling it Tideborn because that’s how the new race is being called by Level Up! Games, Perfect World’s publisher in the Philippines. It’s actually much better than simply calling the race “Mermen” because they are more than that. But that’s how the Chinese are calling them, Ren Yu Chuan Shuo.
Along with the new playable race, Perfect …read more

Fantasy Zhu Xian CBT Starts September 10th

I don’t care much for 2D massively multiplayer online role-playing games, but Fantasy Zhu Xian, another quality product of China-based Perfect World Co. Ltd., commands attention. As you may have probably already surmised from my intro, the game is in 2D. What has me all riled up is the fact that Fantasy Zhu Xian features turn-based combat.
Yeah, yeah, it’s nothing new. Turn-based combat is, after all, staple in most role-playing games. As I write this, several successful RPGs with turn-based combat come to mind: Final Fantasy, Golden Sun, and Pokemon.
So what does this bode for the future of MMORPGs? It …read more

Another Hot Dance Party in the Works

Perfect World Co. Ltd., the China-based online games developer that gave us the hit massively multiplayer online games Perfect World, Zhu Xian (Jade Dynasty), and Pocketpet Journey West (Ether Saga), is launching Hot Dance Party II, a new casual online game, this fall.
Well, actually, Hot Dance Party II isn’t all that new. It is being touted as a sequel to Perfect World’s in-house 3D casual game Hot Dance Party. Now the question beckons, “Why launch a sequel if the original can be updated?”
The query is akin to dishing out the immortal line, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” What’s …read more

Perfect World’s New MMO: Dragon Excalibur

Perfect World Co. Ltd., the China-based online games developer and publisher that brought to life hit massively multiplayer online games like Perfect World, Zhu Xian and Ether Saga, is at it again. Apparently, resting on its laurels after being named one of China’s top export earner for 2008 is not for the online games giant, opting instead to launch yet another MMO.
A few days ago, Perfect World Co. Ltd. told media that it would soon begin beta testing of Xianlongzhijian, a product of its Shanghai research and development team. Xianlongzhijian, or Blade of Dragon Slayer, is a 2D fantasy online …read more

Perfect World PH: Short End of Stick

My apologies to my friends and colleagues who work at Level Up! Games, publisher and operator of hit massively multiplayer online role-playing games in the Philippines, including Ragnarok Online and Perfect World. I know the title seems harsh, considering I know how hard you work your butts off to bring us great content, but it’s just the way I feel.
This “feeling” is heightened every time I catch a glimpse of the videos that Perfect World Entertainment, the North American operator and publisher of China-based Perfect World Co. Ltd.’s games, churns out. Take this, for example:
Yes, Philippine players of Perfect World, …read more
