Perfect World: Got My Genie … Now What?

After patching my Perfect World client to the latest version, Dawn of the Elementals, I headed down to the nearest Elemental Emissary, the one in the southern area of Dragon City, also known as Archosaur in the original (read: Chinese) version of the hit free-to-play massively multiplayer online role-playing game. There are six other emissaries: Dragon City North (555, 672), Sword City (435, 888), Beast City (250, 647), Feather City (324, 424), Dream Port (654, 370), and Universal City (128, 857). (Numbers in parentheses are coordinates.)

Dawn Of The Elementals On Perfect World

If you’re a player of the hit free-to-play massively multiplayer online role-playing game Perfect World in North America, you may have already surmised that I’m not talking about Perfect World International but rather the franchise of the game on my side of the pond.
The Dawn of the Elementals update is finally (I say finally because the patch has already been implemented on other Perfect World servers across the globe) on Perfect World Philippines and its three servers, Dragon, Tiger and Serpent.
Well, I’m speaking prematurely here. Actually, the patch will be implemented tomorrow, November 23rd, 2009. Obviously, I can’t contain my …read more

Perfect World: Battle Song of the Elves

Perfect World: Battle Song of the Elves

Perfect World, the China-based online games developer and operator that brought to us hits like Zhu Xian and Ether Saga, has just launched a new expansion pack for its most popular title, Perfect World II (or simply Perfect World in most countries).
This bit of news would have come earlier if not for my preoccupation with other online games, such as Atlantica Online and Rohan: Blood Feud, and my lack of interest for continuing my character Malystryx’s journey in Perfect World Philippines. Ahh, but this is fodder for another post.
For those who missed the announcement on the new Perfect World expansion, …read more

Perfect World Philippines Chinese New Year event: Seeing red

Perfect World Philippines Chinese New Year event: Seeing red

January 21, 2009, around 6 p.m., GMT+8:00. Around 200 characters on the Tiger Server of Perfect World Philippines converged at the Great Wall to join the celebration of Chinese New Year.
All dressed in red and shades of red, the avatars welcomed the Year of the Ox with fashion and style, and of course, with bow and arrows, swords, spears and axes, and bursts of powerful spells as they strutted their stuff down the length of the Great Wall and defended the land against powerful soulless beasts.
Ehem. Yeah, that’s how the story would have been written in a bit of journalese …read more

Perfect World: Stop blocking the teleporters!

Perfect World: Stop blocking the teleporters!

A couple of weeks ago, some players (mostly Yaojings or Werefoxes), desperate for attention, blocked two Perfect World Philippines Tiger server teleporters, Dragon City South and Universal City, with their pets. Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem since most veteran Perfect World players know the workaround—that of pressing Shift on the keyboard while the cursor is hovering over the area where the teleporter is located. But what of new players?
I could just imagine the horror of watching valuable Internet and computer rental time (fact: most online games fanatics in the Philippines play at Internet cafes) run out while trying in …read more
