Got your attention, eh? We all know and hate or love Imhotep, our bald and made-up thousands-year-old dead guy in the popular The Mummy films. After watching the two movies—The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, what do you think of this lascivious Egyptian priest?

In the first movie, he’s your quintessential bad guy. With his appetite for destruction and the flesh of foolish gunslingers, Imhotep is up in the ranks of baddies with the likes of Dracula, Lex Luthor and Mojo Jojo.

The sequel’s Imhotep is, in my opinion, a bit lame, considering that near the end of the movie, he is seen groveling before a computer-generated image of Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock. Weird.

What’s even weirder and infinitely more lame is Imhotep in the massively multiplayer online role-playing game Atlantica Online. In the virtual parallel Earth of Atlantica, Imhotep is an NPC (non-player character) and what’s worse is, he’s rooted to a spot in the middle of the Egyptian desert.

He does have a role, though. Imhotep charges your Atlantica Online character and his or her band of misfits with the Oracle Recruitment Quest, in conjunction with those assigned by two other NPCs, Nefertiti and Horus.

But that’s as far as Imhotep goes. Of course, he lets your character and mercenaries do the dirty work, such as bringing him 30 drops of eagle blood, 35 stinking bodily fluid (ewww!) from cursed camels, 40 discolored manes of bipedal desert lions, and 40 rotten bandages from ancient mummies. Talk about gross.

More on Atlantica Online quests in a later posting.

Imhotep in all his wimpy glory.

Oh, before I forget, here’s a brief description of Imhotep from the Atlantica Online in-game quest log:

A doctor. A timid character who has a hard time starting conversations with others. However, he is very smart, and has an excellent command of medicine.

Really? In the movies, he just bit the heads off of rowdy tombraiders.

Yes, that word, anticlimactic, just about sums up how I felt after finishing the low-level quest, Toren’s Request, in the hit Gravity online game Requiem: Bloodymare.
No, it’s not Gravity’s fault; the fault is actually mine. I level so slow that it takes me ages to finish a quest, and by the time I get around to finish a quest, my character’s already a few levels higher than the recommended level.

No, it’s not Gravity’s fault; the fault is actually mine. I level so slow that it takes me ages to finish a quest, and by the time I get around to finish a quest, my character’s already a few levels higher than the recommended level.

Requiem: Bloodymare’s Toren’s Request is one such quest. Part One of Toren’s Request becomes available when your character reaches Level 10 (yes, once the avatar, called a Temperion in Requiem: Bloodymare-speak, changes to the first job).

Here’s a summary of Toren’s Request:

Part 1
Required Level: 10
Rewards: Around 6817 experience points and 116 Lant
Target NPC: Heyra

Talk to the smuggler Heyra at the Caput Sawmill.

Part 2
Required Level: 16
Rewards: Around 787 EXP and 116 Lant
Target NPC: Toren

Talk to the peddler Toren at the South Bivouac.

Part 3
Required Level: 16
Rewards: Around 967 EXP and 149 Lant
Target NPC: Toren

Collect Wild Small Gropie Claws and Ziebalt Molar Teeth at the Elba Gorge located northwest of the South Bivouac. Regardless of what’s written on the quest dialogue, the first quest item you need is Wild Small Gropie Claws and not Mini Golem Claws. The quest item name is apparently bugged. After collecting the items, talk to Toren.

Part 4
Required Level: 16
Rewards: Around 787 EXP and 116 Lant
Target NPC: Heyra

Talk to the smuggler Heyra at the Caput Sawmill.

Part 5
Required Level: 16
Rewards: Around 1,912 EXP and 149 Lant
Target NPC: Heyra

Collect 10 pieces of Torn Paper from Olgross, monsters that spawn near the Caput Sawmill, and then talk to Heyra again.

Part 6
Required Level: 16
Rewards: Around 787 EXP and 116 Lant
Target NPC: Toren

Talk to the peddler Toren at the South Bivouac.

Finale
Required Level: 16
Rewards: Around 2,970 EXP and 149 Lant
Target NPC: Toren

Talk to Toren after securing a treasure map from the Monster Gatus that roams the eastern part of the Fridha Snowfields. Can’t find Gatus? Leave the South Bivouac and head north. Make sure to follow the path, the one that intersects the lower left corner of the letter “B” in the word “Blackhand” of Blackhand Debouchment on the map.

Gatus is a wuss.
