It may be over and done with, but the China Game Industry Annual Conference, held on December 16 at the Great Hall of People in Beijing, has opened the doors to the world for the country’s video games industry. This year’s theme: Scientific Development, Creative Culture and Service Improvement.

Egad! China online games industry raking in big bucks

Just how big? Well, last time someone checked, the industry has posted 3.985 billion yuan in revenues. That’s at least US$571 million!
Here’s an excerpt from a 17173 story on the huge figures:
According to the Chinese Online Game Market Survey for the first quarter of 2008, a report published by Analysis International, the toal revenue of the industry has reached RMB 3.985 billion, a quarter-on-quarter increase of 14 percent.
With a market share of 18.7 percent, Shanda kept its lead in the market, followed by NetEase at 13.3 percent, The9 at 11.5 percent, and Giant Interactive at 11.3 percent.

Giant Online: Big game for big wars

I don’t know about you, but I’m getting tired of MMORPG developers who claim that their game is “totally different from what’s in the market now.” Giant Interactive, one of China’s leading online game developers and operators, has fallen into such a loop shortly before announcing plans for its second MMORPG title, Giant Online.
In an interview published in China’s biggest video games portal, Yuzhu Shi, chairman of Giant Interactive, delivered that exact line, and went even further by submitting the idea that Giant Online would be one of the most popular games of 2008.
