Where we left off: Our young heroes are reunited after a spat when Mr. Obnoxious, also known as THEGREATESTEVER or simply TGE, discovers that Pudding beat him in changing into the first job in the popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game Fly For Fun.

In the fourth installment of the hit machinima based on Flyff, we find Pudding and TGE beating the crap out of Wagsaacs outside Saint Mourning as they continue their adventures after changing into their first jobs—Mercenary for Pudding and Assist for TGE. Of course, THEGREATESTEVER is still clueless about how his job class works, mostly due to his blind fanaticism to the mysterious Assist Master Lee, hence getting stuck with using a Vagrant weapon—a flaming wooden sword.

As usual, THEGREATESTEVER exudes raw power—the power to turn people off—in this Flyff machinima episode dubbed Knight of Roika. In the fight against the Wagsaacs, Pudding manages to get herself into trouble and TGE once again saves her, but not without the verbal abuse so commonly associated with THEGREATESTEVER’s virtual mouth.

When the two young adventurers get back to town, they discover that their next quest involves hunting down Mias south of Saint Mourning and getting their dolls. Unknown to Pudding and TGE, their movements are being watched and their conversations are being monitored. Just as they are about to leave for the Mia fields, a stranger approaches them, offering aid.

Of course, THEGREATESTEVER declines the stranger’s offer with every bit of sarcasm his cocky mouth can utter.

Now, let me just shut up and make you watch the first of two video clips of the Fly For Fun machinima Pudding and TGE in the Knight of Roika:

Perhaps strutting around a virtual world with a character that looks like Brad Pitt or George Clooney is more to your liking? Devilish vixens instead of hunky actors? Why not?

If your answer is a resounding “yes,” then Perfect World is probably for you.

I’ve played around with Perfect World’s character customization in the past, and documented it here on MMOtaku under the title, Endless Fun With Perfect World’s Character Customization. Well, it’s really fun; it brings out the artist in every player wanting to be different from the rest of the pack.

Some players have taken character customization up a notch by designing their toons to look like celebrities. Here’s an example:

Yes, I admit that Rowan Atkinson, a.k.a. Mr. Bean, isn’t the most comely chap to copy, but it does wonders for popularity. And in case you haven’t tried it, it’s easier to copy the likeness of public figures who have exaggerated features.

Well, what are you waiting for? Register a Perfect World account and play with its amazing character customization feature.

Oh, before I forget, here’s a video about Perfect World’s character customization, in a nutshell:

It’s probably the sharp contrast between our two protagonist. On the one hand, you have THEGREATESTEVER, a misguided boy who thinks he is on the correct path to greatness. On the other hand, you have Pudding … ahh, clueless, naive Pudding.

Yes, I know it’s taken ages for me to post another article about one of my favorite machinima Pudding and THEGREATESTEVER based on the massively multiplayer online role-playing game Fly For Fun. Well, I’ve just watched the third installment in the series created by the Mystical Bunch, and I find myself craving for more.

It’s probably the sharp contrast between our two protagonist. On the one hand, you have THEGREATESTEVER, a misguided boy who thinks he is on the correct path to greatness. On the other hand, you have Pudding … ahh, clueless, naive Pudding.

Anyway, in this episode, the third in the series, we find Mr. Obnoxious, uhmm, I mean, THEGREATESTEVER on his way to get a job change. Before reaching the target NPC, he hears his name being called out by Pudding. When he finally sees her, he becomes green with envy as Pudding has already changed her job, from Vagrant into Mercenary.

This encounter with Pudding gave THEGREATESTEVER pause and a bit of self doubt. But he proves to be undeterred. So he continues his quest, <strike>dissing</strike> ditching Pudding in the middle of questing, and finally gets what he’s been salivating over in the past two episodes: a change in job.

At this point, it’s customary for me to just shut up and let you watch the video:

Again, kudos to the Mystical Bunch—MysticalLynx, MysticalPing and MysticMoon—for a great machinima that hopefully will outlast even the game it’s based on.

I find it appalling that some people will actually go to great lengths to cheat even such a simple social or casual game like Pet Society. I mean, I understand the motivation behind cheating large massively multiplayer online role-playing games. In this type of game, the more in-game moolah you have, the more money you’ll get from real-money trading of in-game currency.

But what do you get out of cheating a Facebook application like Pet Society? Your guess is as good as mine.

For those curious about why I’m talking about a Facebook application in a blog that’s supposedly about MMOs, check out Sidetracked by Games on Facebook, an article I posted last week.

The Force is strong in social and casual games, enough to pull a supposedly diehard massively multiplayer online role-playing game fanatic into playing them. Not that I mind, really. These games are actually interesting and helps break the monotony of playing just one genre.

I suppose in a way we can consider some social and casual games as MMOs, particularly classics like OzWorld, which was the first online game brought into the Philippines by then fledgling operator Level Up! Games.

The games I’m playing now, though, are of a slightly different breed. I play them through a social networking site, Facebook. Yes, they’re applications, or simply apps.

At first, I got hooked to Mob Wars, an application developed by Psycho Monkey LLC, and Dragon Wars by Zynga. They were, as I said, great distractions, but didn’t really give me the kind of high with the Facebook apps or games I’m playing now.

Many thanks to Khang for introducing me to Pet Society and Restaurant City, two cool applications developed by Playfish.

In Pet Society, you get to create a unique pet and level him or her up with fun activities like visiting friends, playing ball, throwing and catching Frisbee, and shopping. Of course, these activities not only give your pet valuable experience but also currency to spend on new stuff like clothes and furniture.

At the moment, my pet, Cesky, named after my daughter, is sleeping soundly on the floor of a friend’s house. That’s what these pets do when you leave them to their own devices, such as when you’re working on something else.

The other game, Restaurant City, puts you at the helm of your very own restaurant. No fancy moves necessary. Just select your employees from your Facebook friend’s list, assign them work, and watch your restaurant grow. The only real work comes in when you’re looking for ingredients for new dishes, and the only way to do these is by visiting your friends’ restaurants and trading with them.

Well, that’s it for the brief explanation for the apparent lack of news from other MMORPGs and my erratic posting schedule. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a restaurant to manage and a few mouths, including my pet’s, to feed.

I was supposed to post this screenshot a couple of days ago, but decided against it at first because I wanted to find out if the Western world thinks a pig taller—or larger—than an adult human being is, well, weird. After a few hours of fruitless browsing on search engines using the phrase “Atlantica Online big pig,” I thought that, yes, maybe Westerners grow their pigs to the size of small houses.
In hindsight, I think drawing sprites of pigs larger than character sprites in Atlantica Online does get rid of a stumbling block. Hey, at least the guys up at [...]
Post from: MMOtaku

I assume you’ve taken a brief glance at the screenshot above before reading the first word of this paragraph. If you haven’t, you might want to do so now before proceeding any further.
Funny, eh? Well, if it’s not funny, then you probably think it’s ridiculous. Rest assured that not all Perfect World NPCs (or non-player characters, for the benefit of those who don’t know the lingo) “talk” like that. This way of “speaking” is the domain of the Foreigner NPC … yes, the one found on a boat off the coast of Langour Village.
Here’s the rest of his dialogue:

After much thought, I wish the guys up at Level Up! Games, the Philippine operator of the popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game from China, put more effort in translating the text. I mean, they could have done a better job at making the Foreigner, well, sound more foreign instead of just replacing his I’s with E’s.

Ah, well, I guess this Perfect World is destined to stay imperfect.
