We can all breathe a collective sigh of relief as Perfect World Co. Ltd., developer of hit massively multiplayer online role-playing games like Ether Saga and Jade Dynasty, announces the upcoming alpha testing of the Tideborn patch for Perfect World on November 25th, 2009.
I’m calling it Tideborn because that’s how the new race is being called by Level Up! Games, Perfect World’s publisher in the Philippines. It’s actually much better than simply calling the race “Mermen” because they are more than that. But that’s how the Chinese are calling them, Ren Yu Chuan Shuo.
Along with the new playable race, Perfect …read more

It has been almost a year since the worldwide launch of World of Warcraft’s expansion Wrath of the Lich King, but the China hub, hosted by NetEase, has yet to implement it. No surprise there, true, but if the company wishes not to end up the way executives of The9, the game’s previous license holder, did, it is highly recommended they just agree with whatever the Chinese governments wants to implement in the game so it can be patched … asap!
An official of China’s Ministry of Culture told online games portal 17173 recently that they were still reviewing NetEase’s application …read more

Fallen Earth LLC, developer of self-titled massively multiplayer online game Fallen Earth, has just announced the winners of its second annual post-apocalyptic Halloween Costume Contest.
With the chance to show off their imagination, Fallen Earth players gave their all in exploring the wasteland of the area previously known as the Grand Canyon to submit a costume based on the six factions featured in the game—Children of the Apocalypse (CHOTA), Traveler, Vista, Enforcer, Lightbearer and Tech.
Of course, the contest eyed a player’s creativity, so it was only natural that the best submissions were determined in three different categories—Most Original Setting, Most Accurate …read more

Grrr. I hate getting sick. Ailments make me miss out on some events that shouldn’t be missed. Take, for instance, the recent play test for the content update in the upcoming online military first-person shooter Mercenary Wars from Uforia. The guys up at the online games publisher wasn’t kidding when they said it was going to be a short test—it ran from October 26th, at 2 p.m. Pacfic Daylight Time, to 9 p.m., and again at the same hours on October 27th.
“The testing phase as we lead up to launch is very important to us so we are looking to …read more

Talk about adding insult to injury. After losing the license to World of Warcraft and failing to come out with another hit massively multiplayer online role-playing game, China-based online games operator The9 has been sued by its shareholders for allegedly violating the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 by making inaccurate statements about its finances between November 15th, 2006 and July 15th, 2009.
Oh, and we’re not talking about some law in China but the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, the law governing the secondary trading of stocks, bonds and the like in the United States of America.
High-profile law firm Coughlin Stoia …read more

Ah, here’s some bit of news that I missed last week, the one about changes in the massively multiplayer online role-playing game DragonSky, published in North America by Aeria Games. First off, I’d like to apologize for this oversight, courtesy of my ongoing beef against the online games publisher’s downloader.
Before I give you details about the changes in DragonSky, I’d like to share information regarding my dilemma in trying—and I do place a lot of emphasis on TRYING—to download any client from Aeria Games, and would like to find out whether others are encountering this as well.
The trouble starts when …read more
