Well, that’s how they’re touting it. And that’s not all they’re saying about Welkin 4591. Before we get to what other people are saying about the game, let’s take a look at the announcement story on Welkin 4591’s media partner, online games portal 17173:
Developed by OUTPOP Digital, a Shanghai-based game developer, Welkin 4591 is a China-developed massively multiplayer online first-person shooter. After five years’ development, the game finally entered closed beta this September. In Welkin 4591, players are allowed to create weapons, vehicles, aircraft with various materials, which enrich game experience to the largest extent. Players will engage in massive warfare, using strategy, mechanic troops, and cooperation between players.
The game adopts Real Engine Technology, which provides powerful representation of shadow and light, and full support of Physx Acceleration Technology.
Not much to go on there, obviously. To give you a better idea of what Welkin 4591 is about, some industry experts point out that it’s an upgraded version of Planetside, a computer game published by Sony Online Entertainment and released in May 2003.
Here’s a forum post about Welkin 4591 on reviewstash written by Daniel Levy:
Riding off of the “success” of Planetside, it looks like Chinese game developer Welkin has something up its sleeves: a refined version of Planetside featuring updated graphics, REAL urban combat (sorry caves). It appears they’ve got a trial/beta going right now, and anyone who can “decipher” Chinese text can get in on the action. Be sure to share it with us; we’re getting desperate for our MMOFPS fix. This topic is open to posts, so let us know what you’ve found out about the game.
