NBA Obsessed

Celtics beat a tired Piston team

NBA Obsessed takes you into the hit and run game of NBA Basketball.

Rasheed Wallace and Kevin Garnett going at it

Kevin Garnett was on fire and it showed.

Kevin Garnett scored a season-high 31 points to lead Boston to a bruising 90-78 victory over Detroit on Wednesday night as the Celtics became the first team in the NBA to clinch a playoff berth and also earned the homecourt tie-breaker over their closest competitor. source

NBA Basketball Kevin Garnett factoidKevin Garnett needs 23 points to reach 20,000 in his career.

The Pistons had a west coast road trip going coming back from the Clippers game to play Seattle at home, then had trouble with the plane and the weather, got diverted to another airport had a bus ride and arrived at Boston a little late and very tired.

It showed as Boston went on a 17 – 3 lead and the Pistons scrambled all night to catch up. Finally the Pistons caught up at 69 all, but it did not matter as the Pistons had no legs and missed open shot after open shot.

Give Boston credit. Allen and Pierce were not really factors, but Garnett was hot and Kendrick Perkins played out of his mind.

Kendrick Perkins had a career-high 20 rebounds to go with his 10 points for the Celtics.

The Pistons

Sheed played a great game even after spraining his left ankle. Wallace had 23 points.

Chauncey came on in the 3rd quarter to take over the game. He ended up with 23 points with 14 out of 15 free throws. It seemed like Chauncey was fouled on every trip up the court in the third quarter when he had 18 points and made all 11 of his free throws.

Boston clinched a playoff spot, but Coach Doc River was quick to point out that 60 victories means nothing. When the playoffs come along, Detroit will still have the big game experience through the years.

It was a playoff style game and even for your intrepid author, a big Pistons fan, it was fun to watch.

NBA Basketball Fan Question Is Boston growing in these games with Detroit?

As always, any NBA Basketball related comments are welcome.
