Kings and Pitino

NBA Obsessed takes you into the hit and run game of NBA Basketball.
Rumors have the Sacramento Kings talking to Rick Pitino for the head coaching job.
Nevertheless, sources say the Maloofs are weighing the worth of paying what it would take to secure Pitino. The Kings are considering several candidates, including front-runner Eddie Jordan, and had been waiting until later in May to start interviews. The Maloofs hadn’t planned to pay much more than $2.5 million a season for any coach, sources say, but the owners understand they’ll need to significantly raise that figure to get serious with Pitino
Beyond money, the Maloofs would have to sell Pitino’s candidacy to general manager Geoff Petrie. Pitino has insisted that he no longer craves the personnel control that he had with the Boston Celtics, but his ego and power-hungry history can make entrenched league executives hesitant. It’s unclear where Petrie stands on a Pitino candidacy.

Rick Pitino had the unfortunate luck to run his Louisville team against my MSU Spartans this year in the NCAA tournament. My Spartys, the team of destiny, destroyed Louisville in a game that was basically over before halftime. The Spartans were shutting Louisville down and Rick did not use his full court press. Louisville had no outside shooting that day.
Why was that unlucky? The fans did not see the game that way. The fans expected to win. Louisville was the highest rated of the number one teams going into that game.
Would Rick bring the running game back to Sacramento or would his college pressing style not work in a league where even forwards are great ball handlers? The Kings don’t seem to care. They just want some excitement.
