NBA Channel At Youtube!

Thanks to Hsien Lei of Genetics and Health and A Hearty Life I got this link about a new deal between Google and the NBA about an NBA Channel in Youtube. With all the NBA videos floating around Youtube, it’s about time there’s a dedicated page for them where NBA fans can see their favorite players in action. The nice thing about this is that the channel not only has videos uploaded by other users but also ones uploaded by the NBA itself. This means better access to all those nice highlight reels we all love seeing.
The latest partnership between Google and the NBA goes beyond YouTube, however. NBA video will be syndicated across Google’s AdSense network, enabling publishers to receive video clips from NBA games. The syndication deal is a temporary one, with both entities evaluating its effectiveness after a test run.
Since this project has the NBA involved, there’s a stricter screening of posted videos involved though.
Although users are encouraged to upload NBA video to YouTube, the NBA still has the option of removing material. The NBA will use YouTube’s “Claim Your Content” screening system to identify and report videos that infringe on the NBA’s copyrights. Instead of requesting that videos be taken down, however, the NBA will have the option of taking a cut of any advertising revenue generated by the clips.

That is sweet. I wish all the major sports would do something like this. It’s great for the fans and ultimately the sport itself. Good for the NBA.
