		<description>You don&#039;t need as many traditional 7-foot big men for international play because that isn&#039;t the strength of your competition.  If the Olympics were played with NBA rules then it makes sense but it&#039;s not.  International rules favor scoring, shooting (especially the shorter 3-pt shot) and you need the type of agile, athletic bigs with good lateral quickness to keep up with international big men that play a lot more on the perimeter in a open style offense.  

The US will likely being playing Melo and LeBron often together because they will run into teams with a lot of quick, great shooting teams that play 4 perimeter players and not a traditional low post PF.

Also, what 7-foot American player in the NBA would have been good enough to in the Olympics?  I can only think of Tyson Chandler.

Regarding the Celtics, KG he declined to play and I think Ray Allen did as well.  Just like Tim Duncan and Amare did.  The questioning should be based around players are choosing NOT to play rather than why they weren&#039;t selected by the committee.</description>
