Gilbert Arenas is a big hoop star in the NBA.
Like a lot of big hoop stars, Gilbert can put the ball in the hoop. In fact, there are times he can put the ball in the hoop from almost anywhere on the court once he passes half court. Yes, on offense he is that good.

Gilbert Arenas can often beat you with just one finger

Gilbert Arenas is a big hoop star in the NBA.

Like a lot of big hoop stars, Gilbert can put the ball in the hoop. In fact, there are times he can put the ball in the hoop from almost anywhere on the court once he passes half court. Yes, on offense he is that good.

Unfortunately like a lot of big hoop stars there is not room for ‘team’. How do you let some other player do something when you can do it better?

That did not bother Ernie Grunfeld, the General Manager of the Washington Wizards. Maybe he looked at Gilbert and thought he would put a lot of butts in the seats, who knows?

Anyway they gave Gilbert Arenas a 111 million dollar contract. Ouch.

The surgery is the third on the knee in 17 months. Arenas missed 69 regular-season games last season and had to shut himself down during the playoffs. Still, Grunfeld expressed no regret about the decision to give Arenas a six-year, $111 million contract after the point guard opted for free agency during the offseason.

source

At times, when Gilbert was out, the Wizards played great ball and that put doubt about the signing in all of our minds.

Again, who knows, Gilbert Arenas is only 26 years old and may have his best basketball ahead of him. The question remains if he can become the team player that produces championships and not just stats.

Six years and 111 million bucks.
But Gilbert Arenas took less.
The Wizards offered Arenas a max contract — $127 million over six years — leaving it up to the unpredictable Agent Zero to decide whether he would live up to his previous statement that he would take a lesser amount if it would help the team sign other players and improve the prospects of contending for an NBA title. Arenas negotiated the deal without an agent while traveling in China on a promotional tour for a shoe company.

The Wizards have resigned Antawn Jamison and now have enough money to add one more player.

Could it be Gilbert Arenas wants to win? Even more than posting stats?

Check out this YouTube on Arenas and what he has been thinking.

Now that you know his thoughts, watch his scoring ability in this mix.

Gilbert just seems to be able to walk right through defenses for layup after layup.

Ok, so it is a bad pun in the title. Who are we kidding here? Agent Zero should not be this expensive.

The unpredictable three-time All-Star point guard, in vintage Agent Zero fashion, told the Post and the Washington Times on Thursday that he has agreed to re-sign for $111 million over six years, considerably less than the maximum deal he said the Wizards offered him when the free agency period began on Tuesday.

Arenas negotiated the deal from China, where is traveling as part of promotional tour for a shoe company, and did so without an agent.

source

Let’s see, the Washington Wizards with Antawn Jamison and Gilbert Arenas will win how many titles with this twosome? Maybe that is what the Zero represents in his nickname.

Forgive me, but Gilbert is exciting to watch, but that does not always translate to victories.

Arenas has averaged 22.8 points, 5.5 assists and 4.2 rebounds in his seven-season NBA career. He was known as much for his tantrums as for on-court play when he came to Washington from Golden State in 2003, but he began to display more maturity as he developed into a take-over-the-game player with a knack for hitting buzzer-beating shots. Although he still has his many quirks— yelling “Hibachi!” after making a big shot is just one of many—he has helped the Wizards became a playoff regular.

This unrestricted class is highlighted by Washington Wizards forward Antawn Jamison and guard Gilbert Arenas, and includes Boston Celtics forward James Posey, New Jersey center DeSagana Diop, Clippers guard Corey Maggette and center Elton Brand, and Sacramento forward Ron Artest. Some of those players are still deciding whether to opt out of the final years of their deals. They have until Monday to make the call.

source

Out of that group, who would belong in a Pistons uniform? Posey, maybe? Brand, maybe? Both would cost too much for what they bring.

Undersized but hard to stop Elton Brand shoots over Jermaine O’Neal, the newest Toronto Raptor

Image details: Indiana Pacers v Los Angeles Clippers served by picapp.com

And what about the Pistons free agents?

The Pistons have five free agents from last season’s roster — small forwards Hayes and Walter Herrmann, guards Juan Dixon and Lindsey Hunter and center Theo Ratliff — to possibly negotiate with.

The Walter Sharpe draft pick means Hayes or Herrmann or both are gone. Dixon never proved out. Hunter was fantastic in the playoffs and is talking one more year, before taking a seat in the front office. Ratliff is a great cheap big body for games like playing Dwight Howard and the Magic.

Joe D is looking to shake up the team with a trade and not try to sign a free agent.

Relax, take a deep breath, Gilbert Arenas can’t declare for Free Agency until after the current season.

He took the opt-out in his contract this past June.

Washington management has everything in the world to worry about. Gilbert wants to play for a team that could possibly win a NBA Championship.

Arenas has blossomed into one of the league’s biggest stars, a legitimate MVP candidate who’s averaged 29.3 and 28.4 points, respectively, the last two seasons.

Offensively, there is nothing he can’t do. He provided a thrilling reminder of that again last season, scoring 40 points or more on nine occasions, including three games of 50-plus and one 60-point night against Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. He won four contests with last-second shots, proving his worth in the clutch.

Washington claims Gilbert is happy with the fans, the city, the team, the hotdogs sold at the arena, but that just does not matter. Arenas wants to feel like a winner by playing for a winner.

Wow, starting to sound like Kobe all over again.

The difference is Gilbert is only 25. Yeah, he is still a kid in NBA years.

Some question whether Gilbert can make his game over into a team style game, but if you were a General Manager wouldn’t you want to test that theory?

The Wizards are an exciting team with playoff structural problems. (Decode: All offense and no defense)

With Arenas, Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison, the Wizards have the highest-scoring trio in the league. Arenas was third in the league in scoring last season, while Butler became an All-Star for the first time by raising his level of play significantly, averaging 19.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.1 steals. Jamison, an All-Star two seasons ago, averaged 19.8 points and 8.0 rebounds.

Together, that trio was impressive, but the Wizards didn’t have the defensive presence in the frontcourt to separate from the pack and get 50 wins. They were fourth in scoring but 28th defensively, allowing 104.9 points per game.

The Washington Wizards better get it together soon or Gilbert will be taking his game on the road!

NBA Basketball Fan Question Can Gilbert adapt to a team game?
